CNY Social Media Tips

Social media has become part of our everyday lives — in business as well as personally. For some of us, it has been easy to embrace. For others, it has been a real challenge to learn how to use and take advantage of the benefits. We have some tips and tools listed below that may be of assistance in understanding the use, especially in our professional lives.

“Social media is a great way to build bridges with customers and prospects. But you have to first respect them and then trust them. But do not expect them to do your work for you”

- MaryLou Roberts, Marketing Wisdom for 2010.
Do you know who the people are that are active in Social Media?
Here are some statistics for 2009:

Half of online adults now belong to social networks like Facebook and LinkedIn, a 46% growth rate year over year. In fact, there has been a 175% growth in Facebook users who are women over 55.

How does it all fit together:

  1. Blogs, Search Engine Optimization for general interest.
  2. Email Newsletters for nurturing and deepening the relationship.
  3. Email Promotion for benefits and closing the sale.
  4. Testimonials for feedback and referrals.

Whatever media you use (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc), ensure that what you are doing is worthy of sharing:

  1. Must be trustworthy.
  2. Be sure your groups have a common interest.
  3. The value you create is simple and obvious.
  4. There is a way to easily share.
  5. Offer rewards and incentives.

Yoga is for you if…….

You’re a serious runner (Boilmaker Road Race), a “weekend warrior,” or a participant in any type of aerobic activity. If so, you should include yoga in your exercise routine.

But if you are overweight, stiff as a board, a couch potato or think you are too old, you are a perfect candidate for yoga too.

Yoga strengthens the entire body, stretches and tones the muscles, and brings greater flexability and range of motions to the joints.

Yoga benefits runners by enhancing flexibility and strength in the quadriceps, hamstrings, and calf muscles. Yoga also promotes healthier and more flexible joints, and teaches good breathing techniques.

Yoga can help one to lose weight; it teaches us to honor and love ourselves so that we want to make healthier food choices. We learn to “listen to our bodies,” and in doing so, we treat them with care and don’t abuse them.

Yoga encourages the body to open and lenghten gradually. If yoga is practiced faithfully, stiffness will leave. With yoga and nutritional support, the body can be cleansed, renewed and rejuvenated. Without proper exercise, the body contracts; we lose height, strength and flexibility as we age.

Insurance companies, gerontologists, cardiologists, senior exercise physiologists and other health care professionals interested in preventing chronic illness and disability in older folks are becoming increasingly interested in what yoga has to offer senior citizens.

We are recognizing yoga for its ability to slow down or reverse the aging process. Yoga not only restores vitality to the body, but also opens and expands the mind and soul.

The health of the spine and your posture affect every system of the body. The breathing exercises benefit the circulatory system, the heart and other vital organs.

Why wouldn’t you want to try yoga?

It’s for every body!

Adrean Funeral Service, Inc. Utica, NY

As I was reading the morning Observer Dispatch as I normally do, with great pleasure I read the business profile on Charles Adrean. I remember as a kid walking to my friends house on Webster Ave. and Charles as a young boy was always at Eannace Funeral Home working.

It takes a kind soul and a higher level of personal care to provide the services that Charles and his staff do. The best advice I took away from an experienced Funeral Service Owner as Charles, “Pre-arranged funerals are best; it’s a gift for your family and makes things so much easier for them and have to have their estate in order.”

Business Profile: Adrean Funeral Services. Inc.

Location: 700 Rutger Street, Utica

Phone: 315-724-4469

Website: www.adreanfuneralservice.com

Services: Funerals, pre-arranged funerals, and cremation services; also monuments and private family mausoleums.

Number of employees: 3

Owner: Charles Adrean

Year Established: 2005

How Charles started: “I had an interest in cars, and I washed and waxed cars for Eannace Funeral Home. When I was about 15, I started working for them during calling hours, and I realized that I enjoyed helping people. When my uncle passed away in 1981, I was a pall bearer at his funeral”.

Education: St. Agnes Grammar School, T.R. Proctor High School, Herkimer County Community College, Associates Degree, Diploma from Simmons Institute of Mortuary Science, Syracuse. Became a Certified Pre-arrangement counselor in 2000 through Service Corporation International.

Experience: Nineteen-plus years at Eannace Funeral Home and other area funeral homes, including Matt Funeral Service, where his current business is located.

What Charles likes about this kind of business: “It’s horrible sometimes, but helping people through the most difficult time in their lives is very gratifying.

Most common mistake people make about planning funerals: “People come in and let their grief override them and then it’s harder to make good decisions. “Pre-arranged funerals are best; it’s a gift for your family. It makes things so much easier for them.

Advice from Charles: “I can’t tell people enough to have their estate in order.”

What Charles wants people to know: “Were here and available and dedicated to the people of this area. I was born and brought up here, and I have a passion for the area and the people. I want to be here. I know many of the families we deal with. Also, our staff is second to none; they’re caring people, all local.”

How is the economy affecting your business? “We help people to stay within their means. We’re experts in medicaid funeral spend-downs to safeguard funds for burial.”

Other comments: “We serve all faiths, with attention to detail.”
